Moriarty reimagined as a vigilante who is bringing about lethal justice to corrupt aristocracy as he tries to take down the British class system? What a take. I just wish it had been better executed.
First thing, this series did itself a disserve with frontloading with backstory. By the time we get through the story of Moriarty and fam as kids, and then introduce them again as adults, there is less time to gets to the actual "cases." Like I've seen other manga do, starting in media res and then dropping in the backstory after the characters were established probably would've had a better impact.
Second thing, I tried to keep an open mind with having manga tropes and character archetypes supplanted onto Victorian England. God knows Western media has butchered enough of other cultures. God knows we butcher own historical time periods... but some anachronisms were too much (Moran's sniper rifle in the last chapter was too much...)
Third thing, all the characters have the subtly of anvils.
Honestly, this has an interesting enough concept and enough drama that I imagine it will attract a lot of readers. By the end of the volume, the premise and all the characters are still being set up, but I'm not that interested in going along for the rest of the ride.
