The writing in this book was beautiful, it is what kept me locked in as well as the common theme on family and gender especially in Latin households. I thought this book had strong messages and executed each story amazingly. There wasn't a single story that made me feel bored. I think each story could stand on its own and with all of them together it just creates a beautiful work that more ppl should read.

I wish I had read this short story collection before I read Woman of Light, because this was what I wanted the book to be. Each story is meticulously crafted, each scene and character felt fully alive and vibrant. Her writing style is beautiful and each story complimented each other. Her strength is definitely in the short format of stories, creating deep and bite sized portraits of life in and around Denver. I also loved the performances of these stories, it definitely added to the experience.
