Summary:
Kat Bird just woke up from a coma, and she remembers nothing. Well, almost nothing. Everything that made her who she is...that's gone. But basic memories for how to function? Those remain.
Thankfully, Kat has a twin sister to help her pull her memories together. Or rather, give her information to recreate those memories. But there's something off about the information she's been given. Almost as if Jude is leaving out large chunks of their shared past.
Review:
I'll admit it. I'm torn on how to feel about Where You End. On the one hand, I love some of the core elements of this plot. On the other hand, I found myself needing breaks from it here and there. So, it didn't quite live up to my hopes and dreams.
The good: this is a layered mystery. Kat doesn't know who is telling her the truth and who is lying. She doesn't know how far down the rabbit hole goes. It was a delight (of a sort) to follow her adventure.
The less-than-good: I didn't enjoy the other timeline/perspective that worms into this book. It felt like a necessary element, but it felt too much like trying to squish the Hunger Games into a normal thriller if that makes sense. It threw me off every time.
Long story short, Where You End was an interesting and very different read. This may be a good place to start if you're looking for a genre-bending book. Just check the trigger warnings before diving in.
Highlights:
Mystery
Delving into the Past
Recovering Lost Memories
Trigger Warnings:
Child abuse
Sexual abuse (off page)

This book is culty and dark. Jude and Kat are incredibly rare mirror twins. Kat gets in an accident and gets amnesia about everything except who Jude is. Jude tries to help Kat remember her past, but Kat starts wondering about some of the things Jude has told her. Meanwhile, Jude reminisces on their odd childhood and what happened all the way up to the accident. I said this book is dark, and it is, I love it's dark twistedness. It's gets more horrifying as Jude gets further into their childhood. While containing a dark subject matter, it's dealt with well. Check your triggers because there's a big one here. This is a fast-paced book and I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen to Jude and Kat. They are interesting characters and as an aunt of twins, I think the twin part was quite accurate.
I'm not sure what story this book is based on, but I'll definitely be trying to find a book about that now too.
If you like cults and horrible parents, you might like this one.

Ekkk this book gave me the creeps. But was also beautifully written, especially the inner monologue for Kat's character. What you think, is... unless it's actually not. Glad KB & the RD got what they deserved.
I love when a thriller removed the option of just googling the answer. Add in amnesia, lies, and two timelines telling contradicting stories? I am so there.
When Kat Bird wakes up in the hospital, she has no memories at all except the memory of her twin sister, Jude’s, face. Kat must rely entirely on Jude to relearn her past, but the more she learns the more things don’t add up and the less Kat is sure of who she can trust.
This was twisty and dark and had so many elements that I absolutely loved. I did find myself wishing that it was just a little bit creepie; I wanted to feel chills as I moved through the story.
There was a huge twist just before the end of the book that had my jaw on the floor. With only a little bit of the book left to go, at that point I was expecting the conclusion to be truly spectacular. Unfortunately the ending did not blow me away in the way that I was hoping after that last big twist and fell a little flat.
Overall, this was still a really good book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I rated this 3.5 stars, but rounded up to 4 stars for the 5 star rating system.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for a copy of this book. I leave this review voluntarily.

This book was terrifying yet heartbreaking at the same time. This dual timeline, dual POV thriller is so brilliantly put together. The author has a way of getting under the reader’s skin in a way that pushes them outside of their comfort zone with an incredibly realistic tragedy bundled inside of a beautiful sisterly bond.
I found this book to be gut-wrenching, horrific and frightening in the reality that undercuts the story in this book. This is for anyone who needs a story worth binging that will have you on a rollercoaster of emotions with quite the ending.
