Honestly, I didn't like this one nearly as much. My issue with trilogies is that the middle book sometimes feels like a filler and, unfortunately, that is what this one felt like. I was disappointed in Ky and some of his choices. He didn't strike me as having enough of a backbone in this book. Cassia, as always, is a mix of determination and flighty uncertainty. Xander had such a small role in this book that it honestly made me suspicious as to what he is up to (wierd, I know). I plan on reading the third book in the trilogy, but part of me wonders how much of this book will be important in the end.

I liked it more than Matched. It was a quick easy read. Perfect for summer.

Ok, so like, I didn’t HATE this book. It was a really fast fluff read, but the writing is really beautiful, and the new information and plot twists kept me intrigued (Xander’s secret made my mouth drop open, and I usually see that kind of stuff coming). My tiff is with the ending??? They did ALL DAT (literally traipsed through canyons the ENTIRE book with the intention of spending the rest of their lives together as a happy free couple) only to be separated as soon as they reached the Rising? Indie and Cassia arrived WITHOUT Ky, and Cassia was IMMEDIATELY sent away and was like k cool???? She was so chill about it, and even Ky was like sick dude I’ve loved this girl since I was a kid, and just when I thought I’d actually get to spend time with her freely without fearing being caught or whatever, she’s SENT AWAY? And he’s fine with that????? The completely flat emotions at the end really baffled me because Condie is so great at turning emotions into beautiful works of art, and at what could’ve been a heart-wrenchingly beautiful painful moment, the characters have like NO strong emotions about what should be an extremely dramatic moment. I’m still gonna read the last book because I’m a completionist, but the weird lack of emotions put me off :(

I think this was an okay middle book. It was very captivating. I enjoyed the book.
adventurous challenging dark emotional hopeful mysterious reflective tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated

Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I liked book 1 in this series better, but I'm hoping book 3 really kicks it up a notch.

I made it 150 pages before deciding, I’m not finishing this because life is too short to waste on books I don’t enjoy and I cannot stand this book. There is literally no substance in this book, she wrote this for the sake of writing this not for the purpose of showing a lesson or at the bare minimum entertaining. The two main characters ONLY GOAL is to find each other and be happy. The book drags on for so long with empty and quite boring dialogue im left wondering what the authors intention with this book was. She must have been on a lot of drugs while writing this because that’s the only explanation for this hot mess. It’s a literal fever dream reading this book. I could ramble on and on for hours. However my main point is…DONT WASTE YOUR TIME READING THIS BOOK

The first one was better, but I'm still looking forward to the next book!

I loved Matched and couldn't wait to read this one, but halfway through, I put it down and just couldn't go on. It gets so bogged down in the "chase" that you just stop caring. About a year later, I picked it up again, sort of skimmed through some of those parts and just when I got to the "I can't stand this not-finding-each-other any more" spot where I had put it down the last time, I read about 3 more pages - and it picked back up! I am now very much anticipating the 3rd novel, so if you loved Matched - get through the slogging part to get to the good stuff!

awesome but would like more romance
