Not my cup of tea. I generally prefer books set in current times and this type of comedy didn't appeal to my sense of humor. Glad it was a quick read so I could finish before book club!

The narrator doesn't know how to do Hungarian accent - instead it's uses an offensive and stereotypical Bad Russian Accent. Just no.

It took me a few chapters to get into the groove of the writing style. I wasn’t overly thrilled with the rhythm and structure though I did get more used to it with each turn of the page. However, I became so invested in the characters’ lives that I knew I would not DNF this story. And, yes, I was so enchanted with young Lisa and her coworkers Fay and Patty that I just had to see how the book would end. For those who like them, this is a HEA—so read with assurance that all is resolved by the final page!

For the life of me, I could not recall why I had requested this novel from the public library—until I got to the “Enhance Your Book Club” suggestions at the end. Voilà! In 2018, the book was made into a film starring Julia Ormond. With a bit of Googling, I discovered it was made into a six-episode TV series starring Debi Mazar and is reportedly debuting on ABC sometime in 2024. These characters were so charming, I’ll be watching the movie soon—and I will keep an eye open for the debut of the TV adaptation too.

Pleasant, low stakes, I will forget about it instantly (these are not particularly negative comments).

Not bad, nothing sensational. Kinda depressing for some of the women but too short to get that invested.

This book is what it is to be a woman. The clothes may have changed, but we have not. The different women and all their lives connect and contrast each other perfectly. It is my all time favourite book.

Loved it. Set in 1950s(?) Sydney, the place and characters were recognisable and relatable.
Great diversity of issues covered too; class, sexism, relationships (both family and work roles and expectations), new migrants.
An easy and engaging read.

Due e mezzo. Leggero, piacevole, giusta lettura da sdraio con vista mare. Ma nulla di più. Peccato. Avevo aspettative troppo alte forse (colpa di recensioni un tantino esagerate)
