I love Terry Pratchett but this one was not my favorite! It was amusing but the wizard plot was not as interesting as the Death story.

To many wizards and such, not enough Death, though it gets there by the end.

Taking after a close friend of mine, I am currently trying to read a Discworld book every so often in between reading other books, and when I eventually finish the series, I will be distraught. However, I have been reassured as to its rereadability, so there's that.
I love how this book grapples with mortality, and its main conceit (having Death himself experience what it's like to know he's going to die) is incredibly effective at being a vehicle for this idea's exploration.
This book didn't take me by the collar and force me to read it. It set the table and offered me tea and biscuits, and for that I am grateful. I have hope for further Death novels though. Now that I know the character better maybe I'll be more invested in future reads. I particularly loved Death's anger at another iteration of Death wearing a crown and the interactions with Azreal leading up to the time Death spends with Miss Flitworth.
I give Reaper Man four stars.
