jmorgynwhite's review against another edition
2.0
Reading just Au Bonheur des Dames; The Ladies' Delight or The Ladies' Paradise. It's the eleventh novel in the Rougon-Macquart series by Émile Zola.
Main interest: to see the contrast & similarities between the BBC series The Paradise and the novel on which it's based.
Challenge: This translation makes the story flat and unappealing. I am sure that Zola's writing would flow in the original French. Here the prose is choppy. It makes reading tiresome
Conclusion: There are a great many differences between the Zola story and The Paradise. Seeing them is fascinating but not so much so that I want to continue to slog through this translation.
