I was going to give 2 stars because the writing is quite poor, but I upped it to 3 due to the "author's notes" in the back. It was quite fascinating to learn what was true about the Lindberghs.
I really enjoyed this and this is a great example of why I love historical fiction. I loved the author's interpretation of complicated people who had an interesting and difficult life.
I really enjoyed this book, and the intimate view you get through the mind of Anne Morrow Lindbergh. I like how it starts with her as a shy young woman, and how it progresses, and details everything that she had accomplished in her life, as well as her trials and tribulations that she endured.
I loved learning about this couple! I had no idea. I thought this was well written and captivating. I really enjoyed it.
I absolutely loved this historical fiction account of Anne Morrow Lindbergh's life! I didn't know much about her. Charles is so well-known, she is overlooked. Her relationship with Charles is extremey complicated. She was brilliant and grew from timid to fearless. She learned to fly an airplane and a glider plane, navigate with instruments and by the stars, send morse code, raise 5 children, travel all over the world, author books. I didn't realize that Anne was Charles's crew, she took over and flew whenever he got tired or needed to look at maps. After he withdrew from the family, she raised their 5 children by herself. Then she wrote books and articles and made a life for herself, with a lover! She was an amazing woman, ahead of her time!
I gave up on this on page 82. There's nothing wrong with the book, but I found myself making excuses to not pick it up, so I decided it's just not for me.
Most of what I did read is the flashback to when shy, no-self-confidence Anne meets also-shy but newly-crowned hero Charles Lindbergh. We know they eventually marry from the first chapter, where we also learn Charles is dying and has cheated on Anne repeatedly. And, of course, as modern readers we know what we know about their actual history. I just don't care enough about any of it to keep reading.

2.5 stars. This book is an imagined story of the life of Anne Morrow Lindbergh and her marriage to Charles Lindbergh. What I liked about the book was the approach to and abundance of major events in the lives of the Lindbergh’s, the history I learned from it, and, to an extent, the development of Anne overtime. However, I often found the dialogue unconvincing and Anne’s thoughts about herself unrealistic and a bit cliché. I also had a hard time with the fact that it is unclear what is fact and what is fiction, but this is an inherent element to historical fiction about real people, so it is more about my feelings on the genre than this book.
