I didn't remember the plot very well from the last time I read it, so it was a fun read.

This book was so fun! Gilly was hilarious and I loved seeing his scrapes and the crowd of misfits he kept picking up. I thought the romance was sweet, and all the characters really grew on me. Georgette Heyer has a way of brining all the side characters to life, and this one had a ton of side characters to root for and enjoy! I had a fun time reading this and watching Gilly grow and change throughout the story.

Most of the Heyer romances that center on the hero have two types of annoying female characters - the beautiful, young, unbelievably naive but impetuous innocent who the hero saves, and the older, long-suffering, capable friend who helps him and he finally realizes he is in love with. This is such a one.

This was fun!! Much better than the nonesuch. More of a comedy of errors than a romance??

Much enjoyable silly silliness. Not sure why I enjoy Georgette Heyer as much as I do, but it is a great little read among more serious tomes (that take themselves too seriously...). Tom is a great character.

Another Heyer that I wonder if I really have read before, or just thought I did. Lots of fun!

The dialog was a bit slangy and long-winded, but the story itself was hilarious. I loved Gilly, the hero, and his misadventures. I would have loved to see more of Harriett, his ladylove, but I enjoyed their dynamic immensely. A very enjoyable, light read -- one I'll come back to again!

I love Gilly - he is my absolute favourite of all the Heyer heroes I have read so far.
The book itself is far more a coming-of-age than a romance, which I sort of wish I had known at the start to correctly set my expectations. It was still very enjoyable however- there was a lot of dry humour from Gilly and a rollicking plot (which requires a significant suspension of disbelief but, partially because of this, is a lot of fun) This is my third Heyer of the year and the previous two were a bit same-y, but this one felt like it stood out (even if it contained a lot of familiar elements).
There could have been a bit more development in the romance - there's not quite enough to fully convince me of the reasons his feelings changed (but at the same time I was convinced that they would be very happy together).
Overall, very enjoyable.
(random extra:
I do really enjoy the way children are actual characters in Heyer and play such a big role
Also, I think this is the first book I've read to mention my hometown, so automatic bonus points)
