Several years ago psychologist Alex Delaware was asked to treat fifteen year old Lauren Teague by her parents. She attended three sessions and then he didn't see her again for several years and an unexpected meeting at a colleague's stag do. Now Lauren's mother has contacted him because she's gone missing. After some initial investigation by himself Alex is contacted by his friend Detective Milo Sturgis when Lauren's body is found in an alley - she's been murdered. The ensuing investigation results in more bodies and long held family secrets. The case also leads to relationship problems for Alex and his girlfriend Robyn. Working my way through the Alex Delaware series but have to wonder how he always ends up in so much trouble looking into these cases.

I'd enjoy the Delaware books far more if not for the fact that every time he walks into a room there's a massive pause before anyone speaks while he goes into a frenzy of painfully detailed description of absolutely everything. I imagine them all frozen in time until he's exhausted his thesaurus, by which point I've forgotten why he was there to begin with.

Liked the book.
Audiobook narrator (whom I usually like) had one major flaw in this one though - his "Dutch" accent was extremely German.

I usually really like Alex Delaware's adventure, but this time I didn't get into it. I can't really explain why. Maybe because there was practically no deduction just speculation (too much) and I couldn't understand his behaviour...
Not that bad, maybe I was expecting something else?

Pretty boring. More than required characters are present in the book which just tends to stretch on the story without adding any interesting twist.

My biggest complaint is that Kellerman seems out of touch with his characters. The most notable example of this is the dialogue between the various characters... the words he chooses to use and the way that they are written in sentence form are unrealistic. Real people do not talk this way! Also, as noted in one of the other reviews, Robin, Dr. Delaware's girlfriend, is a non-entity in the book, appearing at certain junctures, but making no contribution to the story whatsoever.

The story is interesting, involving the murder of a young girl, and the web of money, sex, and lies that surround her death. The story was not too predictable either, and that kept me interested. I may give Kellerman another chance... hopefully it will be a little better.

First book I've read by this author. Was a slower read for me but I toughed it out and got through it. I enjoyed the plot and twists but just a bit "wordy" for my liking. Overall great book.
