This is a great, spooky, swift read. I finished in just three days while on my lunch breaks, having a hard time to put it down. It did an amazing job of capturing the "found film" style in writing. Using this method, it put in great breaks to the narrative, having flashbacks via journals the narrator finds, as well as telling the history of the light house.

I would 100% recommend this for a good Halloween weekend read, or even just a side read when in the mood for a ghost story.

Beware, fellow readers. You must plan ahead and allot the necessary time to finish this book in one sitting. Widow's Point is a riveting read through the history of a behemoth stone lighthouse located on the coast of Novia Scotia. Haunted from the beginning, this beacon of horror has been dormant but now awakes in hunger. The story pays glorious tribute to several haunted horror tropes while maintaining its own voice and atmosphere. The writing was pitch perfect - strongly imagistic while unobtrusive. Slam dunk recommendation, and the illustrations of Bob Eggleton make this an easily revisitable classic. Don’t visit the coast without it!

Highly atmospheric and creepy, this is a remarkable horror story. It has the perfect length to tell the tale - somewhere between a short story and a novella and it is very well crafted. The found footage format really added an extra, as it gave the whole book a good true story vibe. I absolutely like the horror genre where one is left to wonder if it is a ghost, a poltergeist, or just a person who is losing his marbles. It's up to the reader to decide which way to go.

Chizmar is a new author for me, and now I will certainly read "Chasing the boogeyman", as I like his writing style, the combination of chills and thrills but in a realistic way, not over the top.

Falls into some tired tropes and predictability a bit by the end, but I loved the “found footage” transcript format. Moody and atmospheric as hell.

Wow, should have thought twice rather than reading this in the dark. Right before bed, even.
Not a smart move.

Now, onto the review.
Despite what a snobbish thing to say this is, it IS hard for me to get scared while reading! Reading horror for so many years will do that to you, but this was very close. To the point where I'm in bed and I'll have to think twice before leaving to go to the bathroom.

The mixed media slash found footage vibes added lots to the story as well. The slow descent into madness we experience and with a little hint of religious horror? Perfection.

Guess that apart from hares now I have to be convinced lighthouses are pure evil. It's just the way it is.

This is a great short book to add in to your reading challenge as the year closes by. I fully recommend it!
