Loved the story such a damn tease though because for real! Deeply flawed characters who choose redemption. I’m excited to see where this goes and who the father is.

"My friends are with me and I am not afraid."
Murder mystery but mix elements of acotar and throne of glass and put them in a urban fantasy.
I have so many feelings about this book, both good and bad. I couldn’t decide if I loved it or hated it for at least 60% of it.
➢ What I liked:
The last 200 pages. They were 100% the best part of the book, it’s where the whole action lies. They presented the series and the fmc’s potential.
I really enjoyed the connections to acotar and throne of glass, showing that there’s a whole universe where these three series are somehow connected. As an example, books that were in acotar are briefly mentioned in this book.
The romance!! It’s a slow burn with a little of banter. “You’re my mirror”, well yes. They’re perfect for each other. The progression of their relationship felt very real, there isn’t any big “fated mates” plot (at least, not yet), so their connection felt even more natural.
This book set a good foundation for the universe. It feels like there’s so much more to explore, the lack of a cliffhanger opens a lot of opportunities to where the story can go and that’s a nice change from the usual ‘SJM’s ending’.
➢ What I disliked:
A lot of the book was written like “this happened and then this happened and then…” instead of “this happened therefore this happened…”, and that caused the narrative to just flow weirdly and feel dragged out.
The book was also written in a way that doesn’t let the reader form a real connection to the characters. Yes, the book is plot driven but, god, did I wish there was more character development. Let me learn more about them other than one paragraph of info dumping every 10-15 chapters.
Why was the murder mystery, the main plot of the book, so boring? The answer was so obvious that the revelation didn’t hold any shock value. (Despite of that, the book is really good from the revelation onwards)
The info dump. I feel like the worldbuilding could’ve been a lot better. It’s okay to give information about the universe slowly, or better slower. Not everything needs to be within the first couple of chapters.
Honestly, this book could’ve been at least 200 pages shorter.
