My least favorite of Maas’ series. I cannot stand the FMC and literally cringed at the ending.

I read this book without any expectations and it surprised me positively, even though it lost me after about 80% of the narrative (I don’t even know how to start complaining about that Big Brother at the end, plus the fact that Sarah simply drops certain information as if it were a secret to surprise the reader, which we don’t even suspect, because she completely omits any indications from the characters’ POV). In any case, it is possibly the book by Ms. Janet Mass that I liked the most and rated the best.

*Lehabah, you will never be forgotten.

**Hunt is indeed what Cassian allegedly is. That said, Hunt is the best MMC in the Massverse.

DID NOT FINISH: 7%

I can't get past the description of the characters.
adventurous mysterious

Took me awhile to get into but once I was, I was hooked. I enjoyed the fantasy in a modern world. Also love a good murder mystery

"That’s the point of it, Bryce. Of life. To live, to love, knowing that it might all vanish tomorrow. It makes everything that much more precious."

[TW: Violence, Death or dying, curse words]

*relieved sigh* *happy sigh* *sigh* *sigh*
You know... It's goddamn fun and tiresome at the same time to read and finally finish this book. 800 pages, bloody hell. *chuckled* Not that I've never read >800 pages book before, it's just..... It is freakin' Sarah Janet Maas, one of my favorite authors. I decided to read [b:House of Earth and Blood|44778083|House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1559142847l/44778083._SY75_.jpg|46924772] because I need to be reminded of her writings before [b:A Court of Silver Flames|53138095|A Court of Silver Flames (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #4)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1602570691l/53138095._SY75_.jpg|51666936] comes out.

3/5 stars for me. It's enough. It's not exaggerate.
First of all, let me explain WHAT I LIKE about this freakin' huge book:

Friendships
I love.... I mean, really LOVE of how SJM describes Bryce's friendships. With Danika, Juniper, Ruhn Danaan, Fury Axtar, Hunt Athalar, Lehabah, and even Shyrinx. How much they loved each other, saved each other's asses no matter what. If you just focus on the friendship, it'd be enough to like this book.
Especially when Bryce made the Drop, *literally, I'm crying.. (most likely sobbing) TWICE*
"Through love, all is possible."

World-building and details
Ah...... who doesn't love confusing-complicated-complex supernatural, urban fantasy world-building? It's a challenge for me. To be honest I had this difficulty to get the story at first, and on page >150-ish I finally understand of how and what's the point of this many creatures lives in Crescent City. LITERALLY EVERY SUPERNATURAL CREATURES YOU COULD THINK OF all in. Maybe this is the "diversity" version from SJM. DIVERSITY!

Bryce Adelaide Quinlan
Bad bitch only! I love her character, so much. No need to exlain further (it'd lead me to talk about the spoilers)

WHAT I DISLIKE
Too many curse and sex words
I said, too many. It means I could even handle it anymore. I know...I know, it's Adult Fantasy. But, really?

Too long
Your Majesty, Sarah J. Maas. Does it really necessary to write 800 pages book while you could trimmed it into 500 pages?
Too freakin' long.... too long. And the most importantly, it's too long because sooooo many alpaholes drooling and objectify Bryce's body, even Hunt Athalar. Goddamn it!
Objectify of how sexy Bryce's breasts, Bryce's this and that.. It's shit.
You're supposed to focus on the grief and how Bryce dealt with it.

Not so original
If you hope something "new" from SJM in this book, it wouldn't happen. I swear.
It still has snarky, bad guy (ehem.... Hunt Athalar). An ordinary human turns into something powerful, yes that one too... not so original. (Remember Feyre Archeron? Yes... like that)

Second of all, I can't help thinking, this book.... 800 pages long, the first 500 pages only talk about finding Danika and the Pack of Devils' murderer > dead end > Bryce gave up > and end up with the unexpected twists that... not really a twist. And then the whole shit happened, about the Starborn Fae, light power and shit. It's a cliche.
The reason I love this book (and not giving it 2 stars) is Lehabah and Danika only. There's nothing like the last 200 pages of [b:House of Earth and Blood|44778083|House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1559142847l/44778083._SY75_.jpg|46924772]. *blubbering mess of tears*
And... Hunt Athalar, uhm.... Hunt Athalar is.... Hunt Athalar. With his brooding and 832930283 packs on his torso. To be honest, I don't give two shits about Hunt Athalar, this book is still okay without him (Rhysand is still number 1) *wink*. But, Hunt Athalar is okay. Athie is okay.

Overall,
Did I cry? Absolutely.
Is this my favorite SJM book? No.
Do I need the next book? Immediately.
