On one hand, there are some brilliant moments in this installment. On the other, there are some that made me roll my eyes. Gillen has this tendency to delve into too-meta, which makes me nuts and, for me, it always tends to detract from the story rather than add layers.

The art is still something left to be desired, but the story improved with this volume over volume 2. Plot details seemed to come together better in this story, and like volume 1, the story left me hungry for more. I look forward to next volume of this fascinating fantasy graphic novel set in an RPG world.

The politics and history speed up as consequences for their actions quickly catch up to everyone. Plus learning that your actions might have been prepared and planned for by a secondary enemy that is currently unknown sets the next plot. I am hooked!

Gillen is a master at creating dense wonderfully crafted worlds and getting amazing artists to bring his creations to life.
