this book was gifted to me in hs by a friend, for the first two thirds i was sOO icked out by the yucky nasty men and thought their interactions with the mc were gratuitous, like the writer living out a weird fantasy, but the last third really tied the whole book together and put everything in a new perspective. the men were still sUper icky, no doubt, but i understood what the book was telling me and i felt moved by it. esp the resolution of the relationship btw the two sisters

i really enjoyed this. i’ve never read a book with these themes so it was definitely something different. i must say though i didn’t particularly like the ending and i would of really liked it if we saw more of Yeong hye’s perspective, but other then that i quite liked it and i definitely think it’s going to take me down a rabbit hole of darker themed books

Extremely heavy but so worth reading.
Can be triggering for a few traumas.
One third in and rage quitting. Just too much for me to stomach. Maybe I was supposed to dislike all the characters, maybe I was supposed to be shocked, confused and repulsed, but I certainly was not supposed to abandon the book and regret even starting it.
The summary made it sound like the message would be worth it but I couldn't find enough of it hidden in between the horrors happening and the mediocre writing. Or maybe I just don't get it.

someone who edits the vanity fair website asked me what i was reading lately and i pulled out the vegetarian and she was like “oh, i think that’s the cannibal book isn’t it,” and i had only just made it to the part where the weird art thing is going on, so i just shrugged. “i really think i should be reading more,” vanity fair website told me before telling me about how she entered that ta-nesi coates essay directly into the CMS herself. to be so close to such a thing felt strangely holy. “do you remember before the world and me?” i asked. “that’s why you’re so great andrew, you’re always remembering all these things,” vanity fair website told me. “always remembering something “
