“No matter what you feel is holding you back in life, you can attempt anything.

Repeat that motivational cup sentence until it gets in your gut and doesn’t sound like something stupid on a Hallmark card, because it is the basis for anything that will make you happy in this world.”

This book was hilarious, surprisingly emotional, and overall fun. I know a lot of reviewers have said this, but it's true; this book felt like I was sitting with Felicia at a coffee shop as she told her greatest and worst hits.

I had thought she was pretty cool after looking up some of her work after she showed up in her first episode of Supernatural, but now that I've read this book, I have a whole new level of love and affection for her.

One of the coolest things about her story for me was the fact that she was homeschooled. I'm homeschooled, and yes, a lot of homeschoolers are exactly as you imagine. 4.0ers, who didn't read Harry Potter for religious reasons, speak seven languages, and play at least two classical instruments(even Felicia plays the violin.) So it was amazing to find out that there are others like me and at the same time, coming from the same place. Not to mention, someone who made it out of her hometown and into the glitzy world of Hollywood.

Even though I've never played a video game besides Mario Kart, I also related to the life of a super geek. I used to be super into (I've mellowed out a bit more now) fan fiction to the point of which where I would get up at the butt crack of dawn and stay up into the wee hours of the morning to update stories. Oh yeah, that was me. The never ending "Why don't you do something a bit more productive?" and "How about you stop writing now and get away from the computer? Your eyes are jaundiced and the left one is twitching" were completely similar. Since it was an audiobook, half the time I forgot we weren't actually talking and would murmur affirmations, because preach it sister, it's the truth.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a humorous tale filled with life, love, and the pursuit of nerdiness.

I want Felicia to be my BFF. No offense to my current BFF.
Someone saw me reading this book and asked, "Who is this Felicia Day person?" and I said, "She's a genius, actually, and a real badass; even Joss Whedon thinks so." And he was impressed because he liked "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but then he said he didn't care for "Firefly" and I just disowned him because I don't need that kind of negativity in my life. What I need is a Chick-in!

Felicia Day tells you the hard truth about being a 4.0 student in Hollywood. It's a struggle between finding out who you are while finding the job you want to do. Fortunately for her, she knew what she wanted to do. It was the getting there that she didn't know. The Internet has opened up opportunities for those with social media skills to thrive. And good for those people to be alive today and not a century or more earlier when there wasn't a market for it.

Amusing and relatable in a quirky, weird, awkward sense. I liked how the inner monologue is brought into play and how crippling anxiety and depression can be, even if one is masking it to those around them. Also a good message about surrounding yourself with your kind of weird, but that it takes time to find.

Felicia Day has a unique voice and when I say that I am referring to her speaking voice. When I was reading this book, I could only hear Felicia's voice in my head like she was talking to me. I think I read this book faster than I normally would because she talks really fast. I thought her the story of her upbringing was fascinating and incredibly unique. She is a true testament that shows how hard work eventually leads to success.

Exactly What I Expected...

Who doesn’t know Felicia Day? Actress, Author, gamer, and entrepreneur. Her work includes Dr. horrible sing-along blog the magicians and supernatural. Felicia Day is so named ”Queen of the nerds.”

This book brought a smile to my face and lets anyone know that no matter what your obstacles are you can overcome them with a little brain rattling and determination.

Felicia Day talks about her life as a quirky child who grew up homeschooled but excelled at everything she put her mind to.

Spoiler and quote from the book ... “It would often make people laugh and more important sometimes inspired them to try to create something despite any barriers your fears they might’ve had.”

3.5 I enjoyed this and I loved that it was read by Felicia, but I'm not sure whether I reccomend the audio, I also had the ebook to go along with it, which I'm glad because there is a lot of pictures of various things such as past memories, things people say, pictures of what she was talking about etc. I know it comes with a pdf, but still. If you want to listen, either follow through ebook or pause every chapter on audio to flick through the book and see the pictures.

Falls solidly into the "good fun" category.

Love this book!

This book was better than I expected it to be--and it fell into my lap at the right time. Anxiety was killing my word counts amidst life chaos, and reading this helped me laugh. It also reminded me I'm not alone in my anxiety. :) More on this here: http://www.ravenoak.net/archives/4388
