Nalah and Esh grew up together on the streets and fell in love. Things were great until Jac, Nalah's brother and Esh's best friend gets himself dead leaving Nalah and Esh with lots of guilt, resentments and misunderstandings that tear them apart. Nalah gets scooped up by the Guild because it turns out she's a "magic breaker" - an unraveler of spells. Esh is something else entirely and he's the one that the Guild really wants when 5 years later, they send Nalah on a mission and back into Esh's cage fighting world.

The Cage King is a romance wrapped up in an interesting story with engaging characters and this being the Entwined Realms; a wide sundry of creatures. A Rainha Flor-Cadaver was especially cool. The very ending hints at the Fallon - Reign connection - which I really hope gets explored in it's own book.

The order of this series is really confusing. It is different every place I go. Hell even on GoodReads. It says it's #4 on the book page but right now it says #2 and on amazon it says 1.5. So whatever. I have only read the first book from this series. I have no idea if the other books have important things in them but ehh.

This book was ok... I honestly do not understand why Nalah left in the first place. Like I really don't. How do you just run away from someone who has been protecting you and loving you for 10 years? Without even talking to him. So I kind of hated her from the start. Esh was cool. I liked him. He was steady in his love for her even though he hadn't seen her in 5 years. So thats cool.. ummmm yeah. The story was ok. I feel like there was a lot of things left unexplained but you get the gist of whats going on.

I will read the next one.. mainly because it's free on audible..

Ending was surprising, not the last chapter that was a set up for the next books, but the ending with his coming into his self.
Spoiler He ends up being a Phoenix.
The dreamscape was a little bit of a let down as I thought there would be some sort of twining magical hoo ha images but instead it was more a dream. Still I really liked it. Most of what is lacking is from it being a only 140 pages long novella.
