This was a really fun read, definitely more suited to younger audiences than all ages though. But it was an easy read, and the whole concept of "daywalkers" and "nightwalkers" was really interesting once I realized they were not simply interchangeable with "nocturnal". It had great pacing and watching Mez's character development was really enjoyable.

Definitely recommend for younger readers who like fantasy and any reader looking for an easy read

If you're a fan of Warriors and need a similar book to pass the long time before the next book, look no further than The Lost Rainforest Series. Full of relatable characters that you won't forget in a hurry, Mez's Magic will give you an entirely new look on the rainforest. Schrefer does a great job at keeping the plot moving at all times even while introducing new animals. Full of twists, turns and so much more, this is a great book for fans of any animal series.

In this rainforest, there are daywalkers, nightwalkers, and the special eclipse-born shadow walkers. Mez is a panther, who walks both day an night, even though it is considered taboo for panthers to be awake during the day. When Mez is rejected by her family, a snake, Auriel, takes the younger panther under his wing and enlists her and several other eclipse born to defeat the ant queen, who is attempting to take over the forest. Along the journey, Mez finds new friends, enemies, and learns the extent of her own powers.

This was an interesting concept. I just wasn't completely compelled by it. I think children will enjoy this book.

Found this on a Warriors-read-alikes list, and read it so I could recommend it to my 9yo. It was great! It reads very similarly to the Warriors. The tone is intense, dramatic, and high-stakes. There are a couple of animal deaths, which made me sad. My 9yo loved the book, though. So far, there are three books out -- he quickly ate up the other two.

Amazing, but not enough suspense, or like something to get you reading it all night.

+ I love the cover and the illustrations
+ amazing setting with vivid descriptions
+ the idea of the (magical) rainforest where the animals are divided into nightwalkers and daywalkers
+ I really liked some of the characters: Mez is a great protagonist and Lima is just so cute <3

I’m not a huge fan of talking animal books, but Schrefer knows how to write action. Not bad at all!

Have you experience the feeling that just by looking at the cover, and then reading the back you know you are going to really enjoy what's inside? Or you know you are going to enjoy this, but you keep putting it to the side for no reason? Mez's Magic did this to me. I found it in my local bookstore and thought that it looked fun and adventurous in the wilds of the jungle; a great getaway if I need one. Before buying I flipped through and saw beautiful illustrations, some full pages to every chapter heading having a different design.

The book made me smile before I read it, and now that I have I am debating giving it a higher rating to reading it again. This book will give you an escape into the rich life of the jungle following a nightwalker panther called Mez who finds out what can happen when differences are put to the side to be able to work together for the greater good.

Caldera has ever been thus:
Creatures of sun Creatures of moon
Separated by the Veils of
dawn and dusk...

To cross the Veil is to be
Unnatural
Aberration
Abomination

What, then will happen...
to those animals...
born during the eclipse?
