It's not often a sequel outdoes the original, and never when said sequel is written by an entirely different author! This was such a phenomenal book that breathed new life into characters that are so deeply entrenched in everyone's minds. We've always known Scarlett has hidden depths but to see the person she further becomes in a vastly different culture to her own was so fun. I loved this book and it will always have a spot on my bookshelf.

It is very clear that this book is not written by the same author as the one who wrote the classic prequel, Gone With the Wind, Margaret Meade. Scarlett is a completely different style of writing, and almost a completely different Scarlett and Rhett.
This is not to say that Scarlett is BAD. Nor is it to say that it's not worth reading. Just don't pick it up expecting a seamless continuation of Gone With the Wind because you will not receive one. The book, like the title, focuses on the development of Scarlett as a character, and her growth as a woman. You will of course, get the ending you are hoping for, but it just seems to take a really long time and a whole lot of trouble to get there. It is a good read, but you find yourself plowing through hoping endlessly that they will get to a point that does not come until the last few pages, and you find yourself disappointed at Scarlett's endless train of bad choices despite the fact that she appears to be "growing up."
Overall, a good read, but it's no Gone With the Wind.

I very much enjoyed the book until they had Scarlett go to Ireland. After that i think it became a bit far-fetched and unrealistic. It is by no means comparable to GWTW, but as its own story it wasn't bad. If you plan on reading it DO NOT compare it to GWTW.

I've read this book a zillion times. It's one of my favorite books, as is Gone With The Wind. I actually enjoy this book a lot more than GWTW. The last time I read this book was probably 4-5 years ago, so I decided to read it again.
I don't know why, but I didn't like it this time. I mean, I still enjoyed it, and everything was as I remembered... Maybe it's my mood. I feel sad. The book is an adventure, and it's an amazing adventure, but it's also sad. So much time wasted, so much frustration and longing and sadness.
I just feel sad.
It's probably just me. I've read this book so many times and I've always loved it. It's only this time that I feel sad.

Clearly not as good as the original, but it gives any [b:Gone With the Wind|18405|Gone With the Wind|Margaret Mitchell|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1328025229s/18405.jpg|3358283] fan a needed fix.

Scarlett is the unnecessary sequel to the classic Gone with the Wind. It picks up with Scarlett’s life after Rhett leaves her. This whole book chronicles Scarlett’s schemes for getting Rhett back.
Ripley missed the mark on this one... First off, Gone with the Wind didn’t warrant a sequel. Mitchell did a fantastic job using the plot and situations to develop Scarlett as a character. Much of this book seemed to have random filler events that didn’t really help to develop the (weak) plot or Scarlett’s character development. Second, there were several moments in the book when the language or situation didn’t seem accurate for the time period. I wish Ripley would’ve utilized the language and writing style that Mitchell used in the original.
I gave this book 2/5 stars simply because I took the time to finish it. You may have noticed that it took me a month to read... That is very unusual for me, but I finished it anyways.

I read this when it first was published, since GWTW is one of my favorites. What a disappointment. The characters Margaret Mitchell created would never behave like the ones in this sequel.
