At the time of publication many years ago, this was a highly anticipated novel, the sequel to Gone With the Wind. Everyone had to have a copy. It was the "Must Read" of the year. Everyone was so excited. I remember how disappointed I was reading this. The author clearly did not study the characters enough, and did not analyze Mitchell's writing. All my extended female family members read this, and we had lengthy discussions about the many disappointments in this novel.

*4.5 stars! Scarlett was redeemed in so many ways through Ripley’s story, I actually really loved her character at the end of it all. And I’m always down for a slow burn build-up but wow this book took it to a whole new level with her and Rhett rekindling their love. Sheeeeesh.

It started out solid. It started to lose me when Scarlett went to Charleston. I realized I didn’t like this book when Rhett Butler put on boating shoes and went sailing, because in what universe would anyone picture Rhett Butler on a flippin’ sailboat? When Scarlett went to Ireland, all hope was lost. It was one absurd, ridiculously bad decision after the next. It lost the charm and feel of the original book. It was not true to the characters at all.
This book does not exist. Sequel to Gone with the Wind? What sequel?

Nekad nebiju domājusi, ka Skārleta kā tēls man varētu iepatikties, bet man tāds prieks ka šis turpinājums ļāva man viņu iepazīt savādāk un iemīlēt vairāk kā agrāk.

it drove me crazy that she didn't use the classic "i'll think about it tomorrow" correctly. it was to contrived.
but in general i expected much worse.

Gone With the Wind is one of my all-time favourite books, so I was really looking forward to this read. However, it left me feeling unsatisfied and wanting more. It starts off decently, but by the middle I found myself just reading to get it over and done with. I found myself becoming more and more frustrated with Scarlett’s actions and her way of thinking, as well as questioning everything about Colum. I really didn’t find myself feeling hooked again until the last chapter. The ending left me wanting more, but not enough so to go through hundreds more pages that didn’t grab my attention.
Definitely no where near the level of a read Gone With the Wind was. Disappointing.
