Dolly does a great job of building a satisfying growth arc. this was a surprisingly beautiful tribute to female friendships

I loved how this book realistically approached friendships and romantic relationships. In the end, women will often leave you for a man, but, as much as it may hurt, it doesn’t mean we end a friendship. In the end, true love (platonic and romantic) will always be the one that comes back. Compared to All About Love by Bell Hooks, I love that this does prescribe the social. Alderton describes and suggest. Aka: This is the way things are, but don’t fret, love will not be lost.

Loved this book! Takes you through a lot of thoughts that you relate to through life, it’s definitely a book that can “grow with you” as it becomes more through the years expressed in the book. Voiced a lot of thoughts that surround my brain, and came up with some new ones. Very good and insightful/inspiring read.

Lots of quotability. While not everything resonated with me, the parts that did hit very hard. As someone who is terrified capital TERRIFIED of aging, this was a comforting and thoughtful quick read.

I felt so so out of place reading the first half of this book. I think Dolly just approaches love and the idea of romance from such a different place than I do that the first couple hundred pages felt estranging and cold and lifeless. But when the book started turning to smaller joys, to self-reflection, to the beauty of close female friendships and to platonic love and adoration, I couldn't help crying and laughing and absolutely falling in love with the memoir (I know, very mixed bag of feelings. Hence the 3.75 stars). To anyone who is looking at these reviews after the first half of the book, wondering if they should finish reading it, PERSEVERE. It is absolutely, 100% worth it.
Thank you, nina, for giving me this book, you're the best <3 You're my Farly.

This book feels like a warm blanket of humor, love, and nostalgia.

DID NOT FINISH: 50%

I didn’t enjoy the journey of the author- it felt like she was just a selfish friend, and while she had her own struggles, it didn’t resonate with me
