I wanted to like this more than I did. Sarah Polley's life has been fascinating (and honestly, horrifying), and this series of essays reflects on her life, her learnings and where she is today. Some essays resonated better with me than others, and the variety of topics makes it so that there's something for everyone in there. Mostly my takeaway is that the kinds of people who encourage their kids to become child actors are not the kind of people you want as parents.

I've always enjoyed Sarah Polley's work as an actor and director and she does an excellent job narrating her own audiobook.  Like her acclaimed film Stories We Tell, these essays frequently examine the nature of memory and the narratives we tell ourselves about ourselves.  I found her ruminations on her child acting experiences, as well as the moving story of her high-risk pregnancy and daughter's stay in the NICU, particularly compelling.
