I’ve been on a big rereading kick these past few months, specifically books I loved as a teen, and this series has been an interesting one to revisit.

I’m sure you are familiar, but just in case you aren’t, this book follows Bree, one of the newborn vampires creating by Victoria for her army. During this novella, we see how everything plays out from the enemy’s perspective.

I have to say, Bree really didn’t stand a chance! If there was one character that could’ve fit so well as a Cullen if given the chance, it was her. Even though you know how it’s going to end, you can’t help but wish it was different.

I wish we’d also had more of her and Diego, it all felt very rushed and you couldn’t quite gain too much of an attachment to them because it was so quickly over.

Similarly to the rest of the series, the writing isn’t great but it sure is entertaining.

Overall, novellas tend to be a little hit or miss with me, and while I didn’t hate rereading this one, it definitely isn’t high up on my favourites.

See, what I like about twilight is vampire lore, and this book was mostly vampire lore. Also it retroactively made me more emotionally invested in the external conflict of Eclipse, which was cool.

A fun expansion upon the Twilight Saga. Fun, action packed and concise, Bree Tanner's story is a fascinating read for Twilight fans. Best of Stepahnie's writing I've read yet.

Another book from Meyer that’s so irresistibly awful. Every line of dialogue regardless of character saying it sounds the same and if you’d notice, she only seems to write books whose main characters are white girls with long dark hair. I hate it. Can’t stop reading it.

It’s well written, but it was hard to get attached to any of the characters. Also somewhat disconcerting to read about Diego, clearly intended to be Hispanic, knowing that Meyer insists that vampires have to be white, and fought against the casting of POC for the movies.
