“Between Friends and Lovers” is a beautiful yet complicated novel about love, unresolved trauma, friends, family, and the way societal expectations and norms can shape, impact and hold us captive in life. There were many layers in this story, which I appreciated and found myself relating to.
Jo was initially a character I wasn’t sure I wanted to root for, but as I got to know her and her backstory better, I grew to have a deeper understanding and empathy for her. Her ability to navigate her day-to-day life with carrying all the unseen baggage was so relatable. Malcolm on the other hand, I loved instantly and rooted for him throughout the entire story.
Though this did have a bit of a love triangle trope I wouldn’t say that was truly the focus of this novel, but rather how facing and dealing with unresolved issues and trauma can propel us forward. There was some spice but was articulated very beautifully, however if not your jam, you can easily skip those parts.
I really enjoyed this one and look forward to reading more from the author. I also need to visit Chicago now

It's authentic, introspective and messy like life often is. The romance is hot, the MMC is a true lover boy, the stakes are high. This a more unconventional love triangle, truly between friends and lovers. The mental health/depression rep is excellent!
Jo is everything! Beautiful, smart, accomplished and highly complicated I loved her as an FMC. The writing is solid! I'm truly surprised this book isn't more highly rated for me it's a 10/10!
