The award for most successful turnaround of a series goes to A Kingdom of Ruin! Book 2 made me want to poke my eyeballs out, but a friend assured me that Book 3 was worth reading, and she was absolutely right. There is 582 times as much plot in this book as the first 2 books combined, and it’s pretty darn good. I almost 4-starred this book, and if high fantasy were my genre of choice I would have, but when I compare AKoR to everything I read, I just can’t justify 4 stars for me personally. But it’s a solid 3.5 and I was entertained.
Recurring theme leading up to all big reveals &/or plot twists:
Character A: “_____, I have to tell you something REALLY important!”
Character B: “There’s no time for that now!”
Character C: “Well THIS is not what I was expecting” *end of chapter* *next chapter picks up different plot thread*

Characters I will never get enough of
The more I get to know Finley, Nyfain, and the rest of the gang, the more I love them all. Even the side characters feel alive in my mind as I read. The characters are so well written that it doesn’t need to be stated who is speaking, you just know by what and how they say it.
I can’t wait to read the last book!

Rant with a hint of spoiler maybe
Why are we doing the same thing in every book? Why do we keep forcing them apart basically since they got together? I don’t think we’ve seen a book in this SERIES of them post finally getting together. I’m over it, the first one was amazing but this just annoyed me lol

This book had all the fantasy aspects I was looking for in the first 2 books and I loved it so much!! Onto book 4
This was much better than the first 2 books as far as pacing and story line go. The first 2 books probably could of been 1 book honestly - but here is where we finally see our FMC kick some ass and alpha-style-fuck-up some shit. Our FMC does a great job of making new friends and taking charge to save her kingdom, while sacrificing herself again and again. Yes the MMC also does that and has a role, but he's more of a supporting actor in this one. Theres lots of new (and great) side characters, and people coming together that normally wouldnt, but are trauma bonded to stick together and take revenge together so thats fun. Theres new places that are explored and of course the sex magics, thats always fun... Hadriel is the ultimate comic relief.
In book 3, we see just how strong these characters are, even more so when they are all together. Even with all of the pain, we still have our snarky banter. I laughed so hard at all of the insults that were thrown back and forth. I can't wait for book 4. I need to know what happens next!

Ok so this book did it for me. It was worth reading the other 2 to get to this one. Turns out I love a good bit of plot with my smut. I liked the change of scene, the new characters and the furthering of the world if you will.
I really enjoyed the different character chapters in this one, especially Hadriel. I also screamed and kicked my feet in the air when I saw Nyfain’s name pop up for the first time as a narrator.
This was definitely my favorite book of the series so far hands down. Excited to see where the author takes the plot in book 4.
