omg - can’t wait for book 4

This book was hard, but gentle. Everything I loved from the first two books was present here in spades. Plus more demons, dungeons, torture, and good old debauchery. And battles and treachery. Book 4 is going to be bonkers.

A Kingdom of Ruin is the third installment within the Deliciously Dark Fairytales series. In this, we are watching two people trying to find their way back to one another. With the previous two books, we know that Finley and Nyfain dancing around the demon king. So, this book was sort of hard for me to get in to. Which, yes, is completely weird to me since I really like these two.

Okay, maybe I should just state that the beginning was slow paced for me. At first, I didn't fully remember how the previous book ended. Then a couple of chapters in, everything clicked in my brain. I remember what went down and why they were in this shitty situation. I still wasn't a fan of what they had to go through, but I had high hopes that they would recognize each other as true mates towards the end.

Eventually things did go my way but dang, another freaking cliffhanger? Also, I'm not exactly sure why his mom decided to show up at the very last second but one could only think it's not a good thing. Not sure if this series will get another book since they have claimed one another and everything. If there is, I would definitely like to more about his mom and everything else. Or maybe she will get a spin off series? Again, not sure.

The more I read, the faster this series was losing me. I was optimistic at this point that the separation between Finley and Nyfain would give Finley and opportunity to be a real heroine. Unfortunately, the best this book can do is whisper about a plot. Most of the novel was spend in a dungeon and any progress made was not progress made by Finley. The events of this novel just kind of happen to and around the protagonist which I don't love. She's really passive and annoying.

Also, the amount of smut the author was able to pack into this novel considering the love interests were separate the entire thing is insane and I am not here for it honestly. It was such an obvious reach and that just reinforced the idea for me that this author knows that the smut is the only draw of this book.

I was hoping that the interesting premise would be explored more since the romance was removed. Big fail.

Okay. Like I knew Dolion was a dick. But like really. He really is the worst. I was so happy to meet some new characters in this book and a lot of them really surprised me! I am not the biggest fan of Micah, although I feel like his character will have some big to do later, his challenging Nursing just frustrates me. Like why??

“Life is a battle we cannot win. The question becomes, do we want to go down peacefully, or fight until our last breath? I choose to fight.”

I finished the Ruin of Roses series and I throughly enjoyed it! The MC Finley is fierce, strong, independent and funny as hell. I’m a firm believer in a book (or series) is only as strong as it’s side characters and let me tell you, this series is plentiful with amazing and comical side characters (s/o Hadriel, Vemar, Hannon and Leala.) I loved Finley and Nyfain’s relationship and journey. It was epic, heartbreaking at times, lovely and downright hilarious. There is also a lot of spice that does not disappoint. The story wrapped up in a great way and I would recommend this to anyone looking for an awesome wild ride that will make you laugh out loud at every turn.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

You know what given the current state of things, I will gladly take that ending. Honestly, the curse is broken, they’ve imprinted, they are basically trying for a child, so what if his mom is alive. I’ll take it. It could be worse.
But other than that the book was really good. There is less smut in this one and a lot more plot, but don’t worry there is still PLENTY of spicy content. This was a really good book, but I can’t help be thankful that the next book is the last. They need their happy ending.
