Enjoyed this one the least so far. It seemed to drag a bit and you’re just waiting for the escape the whole time.

more plot, more dragging along

Yay, we finally have more plot. Less yay, the story dragged so much. It took forever for things to actually happen. We finally got some excitement but the description of action was average and left me disappointed. We got different perspectives in this installment but it’s pretty clear there is no clear distinction between any of their inner monologues. They all sounded the same which was a bummer.

DID NOT FINISH: 39%

I lost all interest.

Picking up nearly directly where the previous book left off this novel allows us a peek into the demon kingdom where things aren’t exactly as expected. We learn a lot about the chains power holds not only over the weak who are abused but by the powerful who must maintain an image and the pressure and paranoia that can cause in either a villain or hero.

I really appreciate that every single character has strengths and flaws that shine in equal measure. Showing only one or the other makes stories too predictable and takes away any sort of believability. With books like this you get a real glimpse at the hundreds of parts that can be used to make a whole person and how their actions highlight certain aspects at different times or in different ways through the lens of perception.

The twist at the end was hinted at several times and had be wondering for a bit if there was any chance that it could be and I feel like in the next book good memories that helped Nyfain go on will be shattered by someone less than the perfection he remembers.

KF Breene is brilliant and funny and I enjoy so many of her books, especially her Deliciously Dark Fairytales series. It is by far my favorite series from Breene. It’s dirty, dark, and delicious. I absolutely loved it. (This probably the darkest and most disturbing one in the series.)

This book was OK. I think perhaps the novelty of the series is wearing off, because it was still amusingly self aware and tongue in cheek, but the premise seemed old and drawn out, so it didn’t really work for me this time.

I really enjoyed the build up in this one. It got long winded at points, but overall a good read! Ready for the final installment!
