Cute, but not as good as The Pursuit of Love. There's not a ton of story here for 300 pages, but some of the more minor characters are super-hilarious.
What this book does have that a lot of others of the era don't is an out-and-proud gay character who shows up and does an honest-to-goodness Queer Eye makeover on one of the characters. Now it seems pretty cliched, but it's fun to read those scenes and imagine people in the early '50s being like "Whaaaat?"

While I liked this one, I have to say that I enjoyed The Pursuit of Love much more. The wit is still there, of course, and I love Nancy's telling, through the voice of Fanny, how dull high society really is. But Polly rather annoyed me and I wanted more of the Radlett girls. Davey is hilarious, and it's interesting how his little food fads still seem relevant today. We all know someone like that, don't we?

My four stars is for The Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate, which were funny and enjoyable. The Blessing, however, is a solid three stars as it's at its heart a love letter to France, and that's not as interesting to me as very posh English people being idiots. And no Uncle Matthew, who's one of those characters who's absolutely wonderful in a book but I would run a mile from in reality.
