This was going to be a 4 star review but once I realized the timeline I had to lower it. If someone felt the way that Brendan felt towards Piper about me after just five weeks I would simply get a restraining order. Also their relationship was entirely based on lust and I'm convinced they actually didn't know anything about each other. The recharging station was cringe.

That all being said, if you're looking for a spicy fluffy book this is actually fairly well written and worth a read. Am I going to read to the second installment? Probably.

I absolutely loved the premise of this book, I wasn't sure if I would considering the whole fisherman aspect to it but oddly enough it did not rattle me as it thought it would. No job, however unattractive I might find it, would stand between me and Brendan.
I thought his character was great, even though the fact he was forcing himself to keep grieving his ex-wife to make his father-in-law happy was quite frustrating, I think we is exactly was Piper needed. He doesn't make her change her attitude or condemn her 'spoiled' nature, but rather embraces and adores it as he does all the other aspects of her character.
Piper herself is a very refreshing heroine, far from being 'not like other girls' and wanting to distance herself from stereotypical feminine attributes, Piper enjoys what she enjoys and feels not shame for it, and I really liked that side of her.

Piper, Brendan and the secondary characters are funny and quirky, but a little more unrealistic than I prefer in fiction. The setting is cute and I enjoyed the commentary on our "social media selves".

However, I found the (frequent) sex between Piper and Brendan out of character. It was always "rough" (not nonconsensual, just rough) and they talked so much during the act, which just contributed to how weird it felt. There was also all this character work to make Brendan's attraction to Piper more than just because she's a hot blonde, but then most of the time he's complimenting her, he's praising her body or body parts. Also, for a guy who didn't fool around as a teen, married young, and stayed celibate after his marriage ended, Brendan sure talked like a straight-up porn star. Very much a "lady (well, gentleman) in the street, freak in the bed" vibe that just felt off-kilter rather than cute or alluring.

I still finished it. There were some touching moments and the characters grew during the story, which I like. But the relationship between Brendan and Piper needed more realism and a gentler approach to be relatable and engaging for me as a reader.

“Just when it seemed like the storm was beginning to break and daylight spread across the calm waters? That’s when the biggest wave hit.”
So first of all, this was a last minute read I decided to push into august, they were three days left of the month and I needed something to read after certain book (the song of achilles, ofc) that broke me into pieces. I wanted a chill romance, full of funny moments.

Now, I won't talk a lot about this book bc there not much to say. It's a simple and nice romance, this is my first book by the author and I would definitely be reading the book about Hannah bc she was my fav character (along with Fox). I loved Piper too, she's so chaotic, reminds me of Poppy Moore from my fav movie (Wild Child) and Brendan was okay, nice guy but kinda boring idk, THAT'S MY OPINION

I won't add any spoilers to this review but it's worth reading, specially if you are about to hit a reader slump or need one more book to hit into the month as I did. Now I'm off to googling how much people make fishing, I'm curious, okay?

pd: are we not going to talk about the mechanical unicorn? better not
