Beauty Sleep is based on Sleeping Beauty. Aurore is a strong-willed princess who struggles to be free of her mother's restrictions and expectations. I didn't like this one quite as much as some of the other retellings I have read recently. The resolution was a bit too neat--especially since Aurore sleeps for 100 years while the rest of the kingdom runs in normal time. Oswald's redemption was sweet, but, again, a little too neat.

Another book by Dokey that I liked much better is The Storyteller's Daughter, based on The Arabian Nights. A more satisfying read.

Beauty Sleep by Cameron Dokey -- This series is full of perfect YA fairytale retellings! Motivated to protect her people, this Sleeping Beauty has pluck! Happy Reading!

This was a cute, quick read. I enjoyed it a lot... Retellings are my favorite!

I had quite mixed feelings about this retelling of Sleeping Beauty. First of all, when I started and discovered it was a first person narrator in a story about Sleeping Beauty I immediately began to have my doubts, because how can you tell a story in a first person narrator when the protagonist is meant to be asleep for the majority of the story? However, it soon became evident that there wasn’t going to be much sleep in this story.

This was... interesting. At about 60%, I thought I knew where it was going. Turns out, I did not.

Aurore was a fun character to read about. The way she smashed the mold of fairytales was really funny to me, and overall, she was such a strong person that it was kind of inspirational. I didn't really approve of how she treated her mother (if I said some of those things to my mother... oh boy...), but considering she had such a huge curse hanging over her head and still was able to function, yeah, she was really cool.

Ironheart is on my list of fictional boyfriends. I love this dork.

So yeah, it wasn't my favorite, but it definitely wasn't my least favorite. I would still recommend it to people like me, who haven't read all that many Sleeping Beauty retellings, because this one was still quite an original take on the story.

Yeah.

I had heard of the Once Upon A Time series so when I saw this book I decided to pick it up. But to be honest I was expecting a child-like tale or the feeling that I've already read it a hundred times, but boy was I wrong.
I really liked this book, especially Oswald. It was romantic and sweet and also original as far as re-tellings go.
I can honestly say I'm looking forward to picking up more of the Once Upon a Time series after reading Beauty Sleep.

I really enjoyed the story up to a point. It was unexpectedly interesting and surprising. I liked the characters, I thought Oswald was a deeper character than you would usually expect from a fairy tale prince. I liked how the 'evil fairy' was described, not entirely evil.

But then, that was it, in a way. I liked how the relationship between Aurore and Oswald was portrayed, and even though they are cousins I kept saying in my head 'second cousin, third cousin...' it didn't bother me as much as how the story ended. I guess Oswald and Aurore should end up together, their connection being kind of obvious from the start. But I think there could have been a better way to do that. For heaven's sake, the guy married, had a wife , had children, watched them die, basically had a life... and after all this years he still nurtures this same feeling for this little girl? Please... then he just goes off and marry her and has more children? PLEASE!!!!

I also think Ironheart was not the one for her, although he was sweet, a whole life story had been already built for Oswald and Aurore. maybe with a little more work, not such a rushed journey, they could have fallen in love.

I was really frustrated by this book because I liked it so much at the beginning, but the ending...
That must have been another way to make this relationship work otherwise, no? this way was just yikes!

Apparently I read this before, but I don't remember the first time.

this book definitely put a twist on the story of sleeping, but in a very good way.

My First book read on my New EReader!! My First book for the Once Upon A Time Challenge!

So much to say!

This story is simply ... sweet. It's warm, heartfelt, and super sweet. I love how Cameron Dokey has the character talking directly to you as if she is standing in front of you telling her story. I don't remember what this type of writing is called, but I like hearing the story from the characters point of view. (First-Person Narrative is what it's called)

It was touching, well-written and so wonderful. It didn't take me long to read, two hours actually, it's very short.

This story is Sleeping Beauty's Aurore. Her childhood and everything up till the happily ever after. I simply love the names the author choose in the book. Jane, Maman (this is what Aurore called her mother) Ironheart.

The ending is my favorite. I don't want to say to much, but if you ever need a book that's happily ever afters and just plain comforting, I would recommend this book.

I will do a review on the EReader later!!
