I'm almost certain that this was my first King book, and he nailed it!
For such a short book, this was a delight to read! The tone of it made me super tense and gave me the full vibes I was looking for in a thriller! The way King describes the environment, the fear of what lies in the shadows, the grip the father needs to have on his kid, and the constant worry... chefs kiss!
Also, for such a short story, not only the characters were so well-developed that we can actually hate a few of them, but also the way the creepy mist is described is so life-like that I imagined it all as a movie in my head.
This looked so real.
The only reason I took half a star is because the ending was a bit of a hard downhill for me, as I was never a fan of ambiguous endings.

The way the main character is so "father-like" when he says something happened and people don't believe until they see it with their own eyes... and the way King puts us in the feet of the dad and we are also constantly worried about his son and if they're going to survive, the questioning of where those monsters came from, if the mother is still alive or not...This looked so real.

I hate when I love a book and at the end, the things are left open for interpretation as I feel there's never a closure to that story. The movie made a better ending than the book, it makes such a difference - and apparently, even Stephen King says so.ajoh47's review against another edition

This was my first Stephen King (novel??) (shock I know) and The Mist was a quick easy read. Although I enjoyed the story, I didn’t enjoy it anywhere near as I thought I would and felt like I wanted more. I have seen the re-make in movie form and I wonder if this tainted my reading experience? Regardless, I’m glad I read it. I really did not like the ending though 🙄🙄 if you’re looking for a quick story with creepy creatures then pick this up.

Stephen King never fails to entertain. This book was really scary, I did not guess what would happen till the very end. yea!

Some of the men Stephen King writes are so insufferable they could be used for conversion therapy. Some of the characters in his older works are generally just painful reminders that he's a boomer. They're unlikeable and all I want for them is to be eaten by monsters. Which I suppose isn't the purpose when they're also the people I should be rooting for.
Otherwise, the premise was interesting and the book was quite spooky. I'm happy he didn't feel the need to drag it out too much though. Felt like the perfect length for what the book had to offer.

Este libro lo conseguí porque despues de ver la película me quedé impactado con ese final, y toda la serie de eventos que se dan pero me encontre con que era una novela corta muy parecida a la pelicula pero con un final totalmente distinto, vale la pena leerlo. Los otros dos son mas o menos interesantes El mono parece la clasica historia de maldiciones tradicionales, El atajo de la señora Todd seria una historia sobre el tiempo no podria decir mas porque seria malograr la trama.
