I really loved the illustrations! They’re what kept me invested in the mystery of Teddys imaginary friend. This book had a really fun concept! The story was good and well written. My rating is based on my own personal preferences. While this book was good, I personally wanted more. I didn’t really connect with the characters and there were times where I found myself questioning their actions or reactions to certain situations. At times I did find the story a bit silly. The resolution also felt a bit rushed. I understand how we needed the earlier information to come to the conclusion but the unexpected plot twist just felt thrown onto the readers after all the information and piecing together we did beforehand with the characters. Like… Oh, that’s all irrelevant now and suddenly this person is actually this person… I just wish we were left in suspense a bit longer before the big reveal. Like more clues that led up to Mallory discovering Caroline and Teds big secret. In the end though, I did enjoy it!

I went into this book knowing nothing about it. I rarely do this. But I'm glad I did because knowing that this book had won the Goodreads Best in Horror in 2022 would have changed my expectations.

This was an incredible story with a well-researched main character that is post-rehab and trying to put her life back together. Her story about getting addicted to Oxy totally coincided with my watching the new Netflix show about the family behind the Oxy pharmacy (Purdue Pharmaceuticals). The supernatural aspect wasn't too over the top, and it had an ending that actually made me cry---which doesn't happen too often these days (the emotion actually took me by surprise). Add in a wonderful narrator and this was a fantastic read!
