As expected, this book shares some elements with the classic Dream Park, and Vaughn does a nice job evoking the atmosphere of such a place, as well as the behind the scenes details of what it would take to create it.

The first half of the book, however, seemed to drag a bit; I’m afraid I found Addie Cox to be rather dull and glum as a protagonist, and overall somewhat superficial. Though her backstory was clearly meant to highlight the one significant incident in her past, beyond that, her persona was too bland for me. Other characters were similarly not as well-defined as I would have liked; particularly Arthur and Tess.

The many references to the worlds of Tolkien, Narnia, Star Wars, and Harry Potter came across as more clumsy than clever. The pop culture nod that I liked best was a throwaway Raiders of the Lost Ark comment at the end.

The second half improves on the pace and character development; the action cranks up a bit and it’s a satisfying conclusion. So, a bit uneven for me, but fairly enjoyable.

A textbook example of a romp. A fantasy ready player one but with much better writing. Fun way to spend a couple days. Deeds will not be less valiant because they are unpraised.

Westworld meets D&D, Vaughn-style. I loved it.

I've seen some people classify this as a litrpg and I'm going to say this isn't even close to a litrpg.  This is a book about a main character bumbling around and not being able to tell fantasy from reality.
