“The less you say, the more weight your words will carry.”

I liked the first book more than this one. I enjoyed reading it but a few things were missing and I had problems dealing with Alina. She is so annoying. In this book, we feel that she has matured and I can see that she is trying to come to terms with her power and the huge responsibility that comes with it but I just don't like her :/

We also get to know Mal a little bit better. I like his loyalty and how much he cares about Alina. He is insecure but that's because of Alina's confusion and selfishness. (another reason that makes me not like her) Also, Nikolai is a great addition!! I love him ❤ BUT the darkling wasn't there as much as I wanted him to be :(

I will start reading the last book soon. I'm interested to see how things will go.

3.5 I didn't like this one as much as the first. While the beginning was exciting, I didn't like how the book didn't pick up again until the last couple of chapters. It was a lot of the common YA tropes that I'm a little tired of at this point (but I can understand that this was written before a lot of those tropes were overdone).

I still love Leigh Bardugo's writing overall, so I'm still picking up the next one! I want to see more of the Darkling and more about how this series ends.

Actually enjoyed the tv show more. Such a perfect set up for enemies to lovers but alas, its the boring orphan boy she grew up with buuu. And she looses all her powers and becomes a regular girl.
Boring.

Okay so this book was SO MUCH BETTER than the first one, I’m actually glad I read it. I did struggle to rate this one and ended up having to go back and change the rating I gave for S&B because it didn’t feel right.

Let’s start off with what I liked. I really liked the introduction of the new character Nikolai, Tolya and Tamar. They were amazing. Nikolai is just
