This book has some obvious problems, like an impossible court scene with two lawyers who wouldn't be in court together and all-good characters paired against all-bad characters. It reminds me a bit of Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime and a bit of The Remains of the Day, but bubblier and lighter than both. Story was fast-paced and positive [to a fault]. I loved the audio narration. It was exactly perfect.

this was such a nice, quick, read. The main character Molly is a good narrator and sees a lot of personal growth that’s quite touching. You hate seeing bad things happen to her because she’s such a good egg.

The Maid, by Nita Prose, is a murder mystery at it's core, but it's also a heartwarming story about found family and seeing people for who they really are.
The main character, Molly, is a maid at a luxury hotel. She is on the spectrum and has a delightful touch of obsessive compulsive disorder. These qualities, along with her polite disposition, make her extraordinary at her job but often feeling lost in the world of social interactions. When Molly finds a VIP guest dead in a hotel suite, the police quickly zero in on Molly as a prime suspect and her unusual behavior doesn't help. Molly soon learns who her true friends are and where her true strength lies.

I especially loved reading from Molly's perspective because I also live with OCD concerning dirt and germs. Her desire to keep everything clean and orderly while people around her remained oblivious or gave her funny looks really resonated with me personally. That said, I think Molly is easy to relate to for everyone because she struggles with social anxiety and understanding the subtleties of human communication...and isn't that true for all of us to some degree?

You'll find yourself rooting for Molly, but you might also find yourself questioning her innocence. There were a few times throughout the book that I wasn't sure if she was the murderer or not! And I definitely didn't have the murder solved up until the very end when the author revealed what actually happened.

If you're looking for a cozy mystery with lovable characters, The Maid is a must-read. Full of twists, turns, and charm, The Maid is a delight from start to finish!

With how Molly's character was portrayed, I was hoping that more would be said or done in regards to her character development or general character exploration. It was a very basic plot with a shallow cast -- practically caricatures if you will -- and the only memorable aspect of this novel was Molly herself. The last section of the epilogue is divisive, but at least it hinted at Molly having some sort of rich inner world or personality. It's disappointing that any peek behind the curtain at her deeper motivations, etc., was saved for the very end.
