This was clever! It was a fast read with a main character that you wish you knew. She gets herself in quite a predicament and the way it unfolds is really creative and unexpected.

Oh, how the drama never stops! We follow Molly Gray (also known as Molly the maid) who has been wrongfully accused of murdering one of the high-profile guests staying in the Regency Grand Hotel where she works. Molly takes immense pride in providing accurate and exceptional cleaning standards to each guest at the hotel, and it is clear to those who know her that she isn't capable of committing such a crime. It pained me to see some of the characters taking advantage of Molly who at times, seems to be in her own world and has a very unique outlook on life.

After the recent death of her Gran, Molly struggles to find her way in life; from financial struggles barely making the rent in time, to associate herself with the wrong crowd of people. After being the one to discover the body of Mr. Black, Molly puts her faith in someone who doesn't have her best interest at heart and she gets tangled up even more in the investigation. Part of me was really torn on how to feel, the story could have gone in a few different directions, but I'm so glad that Molly found some allies who believed in her.

An unusual group comes to her rescue including Juan Manuel a fellow employee who is also caught up in the middle of all this. I really wished that Juan's character wasn't perceived as stupid, he's an immigrant character, but just seems really dumb. Although I really liked the connection between the two, I'm assuming his character was written this way to show that they were meant to be. I'm so glad that Molly was finally able to put her trust in the right person and that justice was served to the right people! The author does an amazing job at keeping us on our toes with a twist ending with the killer's identity, it's not someone I would have ever guessed.

This was one of those books that the more I thought about it, the more I hated it. Molly, the main character, is very obviously autistic although this is never mentioned. Words like ‘odd’, ‘weird’ and ‘different’ are used to describe her. Like, when exactly is this set?? They mention emojis so it’s obviously set fairly recently and yet no one considers the possibility that Molly is neurodivergent? Is it set in a world where autism doesn’t exist?

Also, the 2 twists at the end of the book kind of infuriated me to the point where each twist lost it a star.
she smothered her grandmother with a pillow as an agreed way to end her suffering and then, in the last chapter, it turns out she knew who the murderer was the entire time as she had a conversation with her before she phoned for help the second time. There weren’t ever any clues to point to this and it came completely out of nowhere, which means Molly lied to everyone who helped her to clear her name, and we as the reader, were lied to as well. A plot twist shouldn’t come completely out of nowhere, on a reread, you should be able to pick up on subtle clues that point towards it. Maybe there was and I’ve just missed them??

If this hadn't been such a quick read, or a whodunit, I would have abandoned this book early on. The main character clearly seems neurodivergent, but the author doesn't share that identity - AND - her differences are frequently exploited by other characters. Not a favorite.
