Oh, how the drama never stops! We follow Molly Gray (also known as Molly the maid) who has been wrongfully accused of murdering one of the high-profile guests staying in the Regency Grand Hotel where she works. Molly takes immense pride in providing accurate and exceptional cleaning standards to each guest at the hotel, and it is clear to those who know her that she isn't capable of committing such a crime. It pained me to see some of the characters taking advantage of Molly who at times, seems to be in her own world and has a very unique outlook on life.

After the recent death of her Gran, Molly struggles to find her way in life; from financial struggles barely making the rent in time, to associate herself with the wrong crowd of people. After being the one to discover the body of Mr. Black, Molly puts her faith in someone who doesn't have her best interest at heart and she gets tangled up even more in the investigation. Part of me was really torn on how to feel, the story could have gone in a few different directions, but I'm so glad that Molly found some allies who believed in her.

An unusual group comes to her rescue including Juan Manuel a fellow employee who is also caught up in the middle of all this. I really wished that Juan's character wasn't perceived as stupid, he's an immigrant character, but just seems really dumb. Although I really liked the connection between the two, I'm assuming his character was written this way to show that they were meant to be. I'm so glad that Molly was finally able to put her trust in the right person and that justice was served to the right people! The author does an amazing job at keeping us on our toes with a twist ending with the killer's identity, it's not someone I would have ever guessed.

3.5

I just couldn’t get into this book.
The first half was so slow, I kept wondering at what point Molly would be accused of murdering Mr. Black. I feel like if you’re going to include it in the plot summary, it should happen sooner than past the halfway mark. I felt the beginning half of the book was painfully slow and the last half was way too fast-paced. I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending either. I think I could appreciate this book more if Giselle did end up being the killer. Instead the author threw in a “new” character at the last minute. It just seemed like a cheap way of throwing us a curve ball.

I’m giving this 3.5 stars! Truthfully, being inside Molly’s head was extremely uncomfortable for me but it also made me incredibly sad to see how she was treated. I loved the story though—it’s a good read!

I was really enjoying the neurodivergent narrator perspective through most of the book (despite some cringing at some clear misunderstandings she had of situations/people, and at unkind treatments she got at times). The ending kind of ruined things though, with a clear 'because everyone has different perspective all morality is relative' message. Bleah.
