I feel like I would have enjoyed this more if I read or traditionally rather than listened to the audio version. I sometimes have a hard time tracking minor details aurally and I think that influenced my enjoyment.
That said, this was an entertaining, action-packed read full of well fleshed our characters. There was a lot going on, which added to the immersive and epic scale of the novel, but also made things a bit trickier to stay on top of. I’m eager to continue the series and see where things go.

Every once and a while, all you need is a sprawling space opera. And this particular space opera managed to scratch an itch that I’d had since Firefly was cancelled. It was big and loud, filled with adventure after adventure for our underdog crew.
I also couldn’t help but love the group of morally grey, trash talking, yet somehow relatable characters. From Holden frequently lamenting that the radioactivity he was exposed didn’t give him super powers, to Amos forgetting that he was a Rocket Scientist, I wanted to root for these guys.
I usually get annoyed with long descriptive battle scenes, but Corey struck a good balance- I only ended up skimming a once or twice.
4 Stars to Leviathan Wakes for great characters, an expansive universe, and for just plain being a lot of fun. I may need a book break first, but I definitely see myself continuing the series.

This book was interesting, a lot of physics and political slants that make it different then your average Science Fiction book. There are also a good amount of Biblical references, which seemed to bring the distant future much closer to home and current times.

Straight up amazing Sci-fi. Corey brings a great mix of realism and abstract which makes for an exceptional space mystery.
Note: There is the issue of writing romance that isn't enough to detract from this book. But just you wait ;P

There is not a lot of good hard Science Fiction being written now. Which is why when one finds one, it needs to be advertised to a lately underserved community. This volume reads almost like a combination of a space opera and a film noir detective story. The combination doesn't always completely work, but the overall effect is quite satisfactory. Well worth the read.
