Wow. This was an amazing conclusion to the Ascendancy series. I especially enjoyed how the end connected to Timothy Zahn’s other Thrawn series and explained
how and why Thrawn was exiled.
Another amazing installation by Zahn  into the SW universe.
Although admittedly I did get lost a few times with all of the heavy family politics.

On the whole I definitely enjoyed this trilogy. Timothy Zahn got an opportunity to literally carve out his own region of the Star Wars galaxy and what he developed was unique yet still believable as a separate region of the same backdrop for the rest of Star Wars. As background for Thrawn and as a way to learn about the Chiss themselves all three books also delivered. The threat of the Grisks and their manipulation of the Chiss family dynamics works because Zhan’s lore was so well though out and comprehensive. Ar'alani and Thalias were definitely my favorites of the secondary characters. All that being said these books were a bit too complicated for their own good. As someone who could only read them in small bites a couple times a week there were too many characters to easily keep track of who was doing what and why when intercutting between at least seven or eight perspectives in each book. It didn’t help that EVERYONE has to be clever like Thrawn. I get that it’s a part of Chiss culture, but when even the secondary antagonists are doing their best Sherlock Holmes impressions it could get exhausting. So yes definitely worth reading if you love Thrawn, but be warned it’s hardly the lightest of reads.

Did I read this book a little too long after the second book, probably, as the number of characters, complicated alien politics, and military strategies in this one got a little much until I started to remember everything, BUT the character Thrawn and the two new canon trilogies that this book concludes by Timothy Zahn have truly become some of my favorite Star Wars stories and novels, even though we know where Thrawn ends up. This installment in particular also makes me want to read the original legends books, which somehow I missed in my past legends reading...
