Mike's books just keep getting better. I think this is my favorite so far. Mariana Pineda is the protagonist, although we have a strong secondary protagonist in Carter Cho. The setting is the late 21st century, I believe the 2090s if I remember correctly. Mariana is an employee of ReLive, a company that enhances memory. Carter has an eidetic (photographic) memory and works for the facility that supports the Hawke particle accelerator. When the ReLive group comes to tour the facility, Mariana and Carter encounter each other... and then, in a four-day time loop, they encounter each other again. Carter manages to get Mariana into the loop with him so he can figure out why it's happening--since both of them have such strong memories, they can remember each time the loop restarts. With each loop, they grow more frustrated, but they also grow closer together. There are two main plot questions--will they make it out of the loop, and do they have a future? I don't want to give spoilers, but the twists are both shocking and emotional. This is a page-turner, and Mike's fans will enjoy it, but I recommend it to anyone who likes high-quality speculative fiction.

Mike Chen's books are easy to read and sweep you into the story by the power of the characters. This one is based on a time-loop, Groundhog Day esque, and it was brilliant. I'd want to find the best pastries every morning if I were stuck in a time-loop too! Mariana and Carter had the perfect amount of chemistery. The science had the perfect amount of believability.
Highly recommended if you're in the mood for a near-future, character driven sci-fi with a time-loop!
