Exploitative horror novel with an interesting premise, intermittently entertaining, mostly terrible. I watched and enjoyed an unauthorized, DIY, shot-on-video adaptation a couple of years ago.
There's a cliché that the book is always better than the movie, but that's rarely true. Certainly not in the case of The Godfather, nor Jaws, nor, good God no, here. This novel has way too much interiority; viewpoint character Jane the librarian laboriously describes every single thing she is doing, thinking, and feeling, moment by moment. There are also examples of "man attempts to write a woman character convincingly" on almost every page. Avoid. Watch the DIY movie instead.
