I borrowed this book from a coworker after I saw the movie (I know, I know...) and I still loved it. If you've seen the movie then there are no surprises - they did a great job of telling McEwan's story. Loved the book and would recommend even if one has already seen the movie.

1.5 stars is generous and only because of the quality of the writing and prose. I wanted to throw this book against a wall more times than I could count (not in a good way) (disclaimer I might be biased by having to read it for school and my life at the time)

Even after seeing the movie and knowing how it ends, that ending is still a slap. Briony is insufferable, the end.

POV: multiple third person, one first person

You can expect: family, lies, estrangement, wartime (World War II)

Rep: migraines

CW: sexual assault (off page, not described), horrors of war, war injuries, scenes in a war hospital
