I didn't enjoy this book and wouldn't recommend. There's some tough topics and I just think it wasn't done well. Everything felt very surface level.

I received this as part of Amazon's First Reads, where it was listed as Women's Fiction. Since then, I've seen it listed as romance (ok understandable), and even read reviews that describe it as witty (uh, no, says my tissue box). There are a lot of feelings triggered by this book, and ok, a couple of funny moments when the female lead is frustrated with someone, but primarily, I felt the book examined how the two main characters, Aly and Wyatt, were processing their shared grief over the loss of Luke, older brother to Aly and best friend to Wyatt. Aly has kept herself buried in her work to avoid dealing with her grief until circumstances force her to deal with Luke's house, which unbeknownst to her, Luke has left to her and Wyatt in his will. Despite their forced proximity, their relationship seemed somewhat rushed. I liked that baggage was explored for both of them. Some of the minor characters were so endearing and others were just irritating. The ending tied everything up nicely, but I wish Aly's plans had been more defined.

I enjoyed watching Aly grow stronger, learn to value herself, figure out what she wanted and what she was holding onto out of fear, and allow herself to be taken care of. Aly is in the darkest days of grief when this starts, and by the end it's clear that she is going to be okay. I found this book to be honest and hopeful, and I like books like that.

This was a quick read, perfect for a weekend.  While there is a cute romance, this book really tackles the grief is losing someone you love.

Aly lost her brother, Luke, suddenly about nine months ago.  After some particularly stressful times at work, she loses her cool when confronting a coworker.  She is out on leave from work for a month.  Although she’s been avoiding it since Luke’s death, this is the perfect time to tie up lose ends.

Like left his home to Aly, but she quickly finds out that he also left the house to his best friend, Wyatt.  Aly is determined to sell the house and get back to her life in New York, but she slowly finds that she may not want to return at all.

This story does a great job navigating through Aly’s grief, as well as Wyatt’s.  They go through this journey together, understanding that Luke brought them together for a reason.
