Would read again. All good Romances need anything to drive a plot - angst or secrets or trouble. It was super enjoyable to read a book that didn't rely on the old miscommunication trope for this.

Never thought I'd like MMC named Duke - so growly and usually a dogs name - but it worked. Nicely spiced without being 😬🫣

Solid 4 stars. Predicable romance with warm fuzzies and a bit of suspense.

“In public, you’re Jade. But behind closed doors, you’re—”
“Lucy?” she breathed.
I shook my head. “Mine.”

“I don’t care where life takes us as long as it takes me with you.”

🏞️ First person dual POV
🏞️ First in a series that can be read as stand alone
🏞️ Meet cute
🏞️ Insta-chemistry
🏞️ No miscommunication or third act break up
🏞️ Sheriff Evans is shocked when the woman he pulls over for speeding is the same one he helped find her way on a hike, only she’s using a fake name… (telling you more is a spoiler!)
🏞️ Spice 🌶️
🏞️ Small town
🏞️  Well established secondary characters for subsequent books; Everly (Book 2), Reese, Travis, Kerrigan (Book 3), Savannah.
🏞️ MC growth; priorities, finding a way to bring the joy back to something you once loved.
🏞️ Epilogue (leads into book 2)

⚠️ Gun violence (explicit), violence (moderate), domestic abuse (Minor, side character off page), death of a parent (past), child abandonment (side character, past), stalking (explicit), car accident (off page, described)

Country singer Lucy is driven into hiding due to a crazy stalker. She settles on Calamity, Montana, where she meets Duke, the local sheriff.

Duke and Lucy have an instant connection and the sparks fly between them. Their connection comes on strong and fast (they say I love you very quickly). There is no misunderstanding or angst, just an adorable love story with a dash of mystery.

Duke was straight up a good guy. He is loyal, protective, and compassionate.  Lucy is strong and sassy. Duke helps her heal and she helps him find what he has been missing.

Yes, the story is far fetched. There is no way she isn't recognized just because she dyed her hair. I doubt a music superstar would really give up her whole career to live in a small town. This sets up the series well and I cannot wait to read the next book.

Tropes: instalove, secret identity, small town

I enjoyed this book by Willa Nash aka Devney Perry. This book is not a strong as the Edens or Clifton Forge series but shows promise. I enjoyed Lucy and Duke’s story. It did sway a little too instalove for me, I love the build up of a romance. I felt we didn’t get to see that deeper connection being formed. That being said I still found yourself rooting for the couple. I am intrigued by the set up for book 2 and excited to see how it plays out because marriage of convenience is one of my favorite tropes.
