I confess I was hoping all of the stories would have the same haunted fabulist flavor as “Who Will Greet You at Home”, which I read separately first. I was slightly disappointed that only a few did, but I liked the mix of magical realism, science fiction, folk tale, surrealism, and realism. All of them were stellar - inventive and captivating. Some shades of Octavia Butler, Carmen Maria Machado, Yaa Gyasi, and Kurt Vonnegut.

4.5 stars. This collection of stories is out of this world - literally! I really loved Arimah’s wild imagination and the finesse with which she created worlds I never knew could exist. This collection embodies how a short story collection should be: ORIGINAL, unpredictable, startling and out-of-the-box.

The most interesting stories in this collection for me were the fabulist and/or non-linear:
The future looks good
Second Chances
Who will greet you at home
What it means when a man falls from the sky
What is a Volcano
