A very meh collection of the stories. I don't know if this is a fault of the translation, but some of the stories were really short and went by really quick (not in a good way). They should have been extended a bit. If you want to read Byomkesh Bakshi, I would recommend any of the other two short story collections: Picture Imperfect or The Menagerie. Definitely not this one.

I listened to this book to relive those moments I had spent glued to Doordarshan and watching Rajit Kapoor enacting the role of Byomkesh Bakshi. There are very few English translation of Byomkesh bakshi stories available. This book is a true classic. It has portrayed the old school charm of the city of joy in unbelievable ways and a source of inspiration for other Bengali goyendas (detective).

The narrator did a good job. Narration and storytelling both were good. Good to listen during commute.

It's like a draft version is written without proper editing, as lots of mistakes and loop holes in a plan, that make is predictable and loose end lead to error in the novel

Okay. Average. Fun. I like the rich Indian culture that is in every story. Like stories that is only possible with our culture

[ I consumed the audible series for the book so reviews are based on that ]

the amount of unnecessary misogyny and sexists BS really annoyed the fck out of me. i understand it's a "product of its time" but it was really unnecessary and so forced? I wanted to like it but just couldn't. also the narration for audible original was all over the place and not a pleasant experience. what could have been a lovely series was tainted.
