I never wanted this book to end, and it's absolutely haunted my thoughts since I started reading it (in a good way). So much to chew on. But the actual plot itself is a leetleeee iffy—after the book spends so much time establishing the stakes, it's difficult to accept that all the ills of society can be remedied with a single heist. (Note: Careful phrasing here to avoid spoilers haha.) Basically, the world-building was so great that the actions within that world no longer felt believable. 😅

But would I let Naomi Alderman muse about the ills of the world to me for six billion more hours? Absolutely.

Not only was the concept of this book fascinating, Naomi Alderman’s storytelling is incredible. A must-read book!

The first 1/3rd was pretty good then it went downhill. Interesting plot idea, bad execution?

+ A look at how our future might look like maybe 30 years from now, specifically how the Amazons, Facebooks, Microsofts and the like of today might shape the geopolitical and ecological situation.
+ Despite the above mentioned setup, the book is not as grim and serious as one might expect.
+ I love flashback chapters/discovering how the present was shaped by the past via a non-linear chapter sequence.
+ The first two thirds of the book hold tension perfectly, I was trying to figuro out how all of the separate characters and occurences will finally connect by the end.

- An complicated as the setup seemed to be, the resolution didn't seem to deliver the final punch the way I expected it to. Maybe I wanted it to end more grimly? Or maybe it just seemed a bit too convenient how everything was resolved with minimal casualties.

+/- I am simultaneously happy and dissatisfied with the ending and I don't know whether it's my genre bias, where I'd expect a book like this to end differently, or if it was genuinely resolved too easily.

Enjoyed the book, find it compelling though the last section shifted so quickly that I found it a little disorienting and disappointing. Was going to rate it a five going into the last section.

Still a worthy read with a lot of solid philosophy and cultural critique blended into it in creative ways.
