Too woke for me. Just wanted to read about the end of the world, but this was crazy. Foul language starting on page 2, sex on page 6, social media at the basis of everything, and a “non-binary” kid. All in the first 20 pages

I listened to the first 50 minutes of the 13 hour audiobook, which was the first 5.5 chapters. If using multiple povs, fully establishing each character before switching to someone else is a good idea. Naomi Novik did this wonderfully in Spinning Silver with up to 6 povs. Characters with povs overlapped in the story before I had a grip on who the people were in the world of The Future. The apocalypse doom starts at the book's opening. I remember that happening with Swan Song by Robert McCammon, but the urgency at the beginning of The Future doesn't work for me. Too strategic and classist; will even the ultra rich have time to take sanctuary when society really collapses? Doubtful. A future that sees AI and tech be our downfall sounds intriguing with current rising of AI and advanced tech today. I'm bored and confused and need to care that anyone will die. I don't.
