I actually liked this one a little more than The Kiss Quotient. Esmee and Khai are charming and I adore them both, the supporting characters are few but sympathetic too. Quan remains a favorite, and I loved
Spoilerthe little cameos of Michael and Stella!

There are some things I didn't like so much, and they are pretty much the same ones I didn't like too much in the predecessor.
- I'm not really a fan of the kind of instalove Hoang seems to love to write about, it usually bores me.
- At some point, it started to annoy me that her male protagonists seem to suffer from a aevere case of instalust as well: The second they meet their love interest, they can barely control their sexual urges anymore.
- Everyone is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful and stunning, with perfect bodies and perfect faces. I just prefer more physical flaws in my protags is all.
-
SpoilerI was hoping for the Jade storyline to have a bigger effect on the story. This was one of the major obstacles throughout the book that Esme kept returning to, and yet in the end it was solved within about two lines of text.
I just really love drama, okay.

Surprisingly, these issues barely influenced my positive reading experience. There was a lot less bedroom stuff this time around, which I appreciated because the focus was entirely on their character development and relationship and the emotional intimacy growing between them.
While Hoang returns to writing a romance that involves an autistic person, the two love stories are completely different and Stella and Khai are completely different characters too.
Esme holds a special place in my heart because in the end, her story is that of a strong, tough woman that builds a new life for herself and her family despite all the odds. Honestly, her story is a very inspiring one about female empowerment.

This is a quick, fun read with lots of awwww-moments and yet another interesting author's note that shouldn't be left unread.

“He’d taken her sadness away. He usually did the opposite to people.”

“If it doesn’t work, you’ll end up married to me. Willing to gamble?”

The way they portrayed K with his way of dealing with grief, love, touch and habits, and that it was ok for him to be that way!

Loved Hoang’s comments in the end on how she made the story believable. Liked the autism rep and the characters were intriguing.

I can't put together the exact words to describe how this book felt to me. It was different. It wasn't like other books I read. It stood out to me. I would've liked it more if the two had more meaningful conversations. If there were something more traumatic that took place. Besides that, the book was fabulous. The author did a good job with this book. Great work!

I liked this story quite a bit more than the first in the cannon.
