I waited for the climax of this book and it never came. Slight arcs but they quickly ended. A lot of unnecessary deaths.

Also.. was anyone else super uncomfortable reading this book about a blue lady being "colored" and comparing that experience to racism against black people at the time. She ended up being able to take pills to cure her blueness but decided it wasn't worth the nausea. Even though she had the ability to change her skin color to white through these pills, the author still compared to the experience of black people. Just a strange book

Cute. 3.5 for story but bumped up to 4 because of the authors note which explained the true history

This was my first audiobook, and while I enjoyed the story, I just didn’t like listening to it. The story was fascinating as I had never heard of the blue people before. The poverty and prejudice was heartbreaking, especially when the young boy died of hunger. I loved the love between Cussy, Jackson & Honey. I think there’s a sequel, but I plan on reading it, not listening to it!

I am a librarian, and I so enjoyed reading historical fiction about the WPA's packhorse librarian project. I also enjoyed learning about the blue people of Kentucky as I had never heard of them.
